Fielders ARAMAX cruises into Sydney's $57 million new terminal

It’s a real thrill witnessing projects come to life from start to finish. One project in particular has been a real ‘jewel in the Fielders crown’, The White Bay Passenger Terminal in Sydney which we have been privileged to be part of.

Based in Sydney’s Balmain, the new and impressive $57 million facility has been built to accommodate the anticipated growth of the Australian cruise market with almost one million cruise passengers expected to visit Sydney each year by 2020[1].

The Fielders roofing team were brought on board from mid-2012 to supply ARAMAX FreeSpan which can be produced on a mobile roll-former onsite. In addition, its deep profile means sheeting can span large unsupported distances between steel portals making it bigger, bolder and deeper than conventional steel cladding profiles.

The impressive structure comprises of an undulating ARAMAX FreeSpan 1.2mm perforated ceiling and a 1.2mm aluminium roofscape in Mill finish. The framework on the outside of the structure is the remains of the heritage listed building which had to be retained as a condition of approval for the new building underneath.

With the ability to host two cruise ships simultaneously as well as cater for 2,400 passengers at one time in the open plan arrivals and departures hall, the new terminal is certainly a great asset that is sure to accommodate for the surge in Australia’s cruising market.
